complacent society. The hand written text quoted in the background is taken
from a speech given by Aldous Huxley in 1962.

From November 7-11th, the duration of the NY Comedy Festival, work by Ron English, gilf! and Hanksy will be on display inside of Carolines on Broadway (1626 Broadway), the legendary Times Square comedy venue.

Wendy Richmond: Navigating the Personal Bubble

Visual artist, writer, and educator Wendy Richmond documents and exposes how portable digital technology creates mobile zones of privacy—what the artist calls “personal bubbles”—that change the social experience of being in public. Using photography, video, and interactive media, she documents and exposes, as she wrote in a New York Times column, “the steady and mundane urban choreography that we all perform together.”

NY Comedy Festival presents The ART of COMEDY SoHo + LES Gallery Crawl

The Art of Comedy presents a Gallery Crawl in SoHo and the LES on Thursday, Nov. 8th to include artist Ron English at Opera Gallery, 115 Spring Street; gilf! at Galerie Swanström, 136 Sullivan Street, 3rd Floor; and Hanksy at Krause Gallery, 149 Orchard Street.

From November 7-11th, the duration of the NY Comedy Festival, work by Ron English, gilf! and Hanksy will be on display inside of Carolines on Broadway (1626 Broadway), the legendary Times Square comedy venue.

The Colonel by gilf!  2011, 25x22 inches, spray paint on dibond, edition of 6.

This painting was created to shed light on and pke fun at the nasty practices of many fast food chains.  Genetically modified food is ever present in our daily lives here in America.  (Yet it has been oulawed in Europe, South America, and even China.)

Who's in Control?  by gilf!  2012, 36 x 45 inches, spray paint on diebond, original (detail)

In the poignant painting titled Who’s in Control?, the letters around the dial of
the birth control package — usually indicating the days of the week for each pill
— have been replaced to literally spell out: “Why are crotchety old men
deciding what is right for women’s bodies?” The artist uses a birth control
package as a visual metaphor to call attention to the bias apparent at a Capitol
Hill hearing on women’s health addressing President Obama's mandate that
health insurers provide contraception; the hearing was led by an all-male panel
and no women were called to testify.

Virtually Real by gilf! 2011, 23x30 inches, spray paint on diebond, edition of six.
